YouPlanet is a proximity-based social network. When you open the app your position is reduced to an approximate cell and only that cell is sent; your exact coordinates are never stored. The server finds people whose cell is near yours, orders them by a compatibility score, and shows you the result.

A cell, not a point
Your phone reads your position and, before anything leaves the device, rounds it onto a coarse grid. What the server sees is an area, not a point. That is why nothing in YouPlanet can say exactly where you are — not to another user, and not to us.
The compatibility score
You answer a set of short questions. The score is the percentage of your answers that agree with somebody else’s — not a prediction and not a judgement. The number on a card is exactly that and nothing more.
Why a game comes first
Messaging a stranger is hard and most first messages go unanswered. A round of Ludo or Quiz removes that: afterwards you have something in common to talk about.
